What is Barrier Loading?

The Salmon DNA Australia method

Athletes build up to race day. Your skin can build up to the big day.

The definition

Barrier Loading is a six week skincare lead up, borrowed from the way athletes build up to race day, where you load your routine with salmon DNA, exosomes and hydration before a big moment, like summer, a wedding, a long flight or a holiday, so your skin looks its best on the day. The term was coined in 2026 by Sam Thompson, founder of Salmon DNA Australia, the official Australian and New Zealand distributor of CureNex and Vitaran.

Why six weeks?

Your skin renews its surface layer roughly every four to six weeks, a little slower as we get older. Six weeks gives you a full cycle of fresh looking skin built on a loaded routine, with room for a peel early and nothing new in the final days. Short on time? Four weeks is the minimum; start at weeks 4 and 3.

The 6 week Barrier Load

Weeks 6 and 5: build the base

Switch to the full PDRN Stack morning and night. Do a Snow Peel at the very start of week 6. Begin a weekly intensive session with the Curenex Intense Glow & Shine Skin Booster, one a week, so a box of five carries you through to week 2. One sheet mask a week.

Weeks 4 and 3: load

Keep the stack going twice a day with your weekly Skin Booster. Step up to two sheet masks a week and Puri Eyes patches every day. Finish nights with the Vitaran Capsule Cream or the Exo Brightening Cream. If you want a second Snow Peel, do it at the start of week 3, and make it your last.

Weeks 2 and 1: top up

No more peels. Keep the stack going, take your final Skin Booster session in week 2, add a sheet mask every fourth night and keep the eye patches going.

The last two days: hold

Nothing new. No new products, no peels, no experiments. One last sheet mask and a set of eye patches the night before.

The day

Cleanse, Daily Serum, a light layer of cream and SPF. Then go.

What a strong skin barrier does for your skin

  • Locks moisture in, so skin feels less tight and dry.
  • Helps keep everyday stressors out: aircon, sun, wind and pollution.
  • Smoother, softer texture you can feel.
  • A plumper, bouncier look, with fine lines looking softer.
  • Clearer, more even looking skin.
  • That lit from within glow, because smooth, hydrated skin reflects light.
  • Makeup sits better, so you need less of it.

Skin renews its surface roughly every four to six weeks. Six weeks gives a full cycle on a loaded routine, room for a peel at the start and a quiet final week with nothing new on your skin.

Can I load in less time?

Four weeks is the minimum. Start at weeks 4 and 3 of the plan and do one Snow Peel at the very start. Skip peels and new products in the final two weeks.
